It May not be Easy
It’s not an easy thing to find your voice. I know that for me it was hard to find. In fact it took me years before I got out of my own way and allowed myself to fully express myself – regardless of how anyone thought or felt about me. The truth is the only way to truly speak up and come from an authentic place while doing it is to not give a shit what anyone thinks.
No one knows what you know, no one knows what you can do and certainly no one knows what you’re capable off. No one has lived your life and no one knows you better than YOU. In addition, I promise you are capable of achieving not just your current goals or dreams but above and beyond that.
For many years I let the opinions of others control me, even maybe mold me into a person that’s not truly who I am. You maybe in the same spot and you’re not just looking to find your own voice in this world but also just with a group of people that you’re surrounded by.
You say, “Yes! Sabine I feel the same way, but how do I change this? I’ve tried so many different ways to change this but I can’t!” Hey, I feel your pain. You may feel that your voice isn’t strong enough and that people don’t listen to you. Well I’m here to say you that you may not be able to get them to listen to you but this time around they will definitely HEAR you. If you’re reading this article your probably in a period in your life where you ready to break out of your shell and go after what you want but you’re starting to learn that in order to do this you need to have a powerful voice.
When I began my journey and seriously committed myself to my dreams and goals I would find myself often enough not standing up to people who would put me down. When I become aware of this I realized without a voice I wasn’t going to achieve my dreams. At that point I took a 180. I was so hungry for it that if it meant taking time to develop my confidence and strengthen my voice I was going to do it.
How to go about Strengthening your Voice
It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone has a voice. Some just may have to learn how to develop a stronger voice than others. Everyone has a voice and everyone can learn how to make it into a powerful and influential one.
The number one thing to understand is that people connect with a voice if it comes from a place of authenticity. Everyone has a B.S. meter and if you’re feeding stuff to people that doesn’t have substance or can’t relate to – they won’t listen.
The second thing is being able to know how and when to speak up. This is something that you’ll get better with in time as your start to build your confidence.
So now the million dollar question is, how do I learn to strengthen my voice and learn when to express myself?
Million Dollar Question
I can say that after a lot of reflection and mulling over the million dollar question what I’ve come down to is another question. “Why am I so scared to express myself?”
I thought to myself I am an intelligent person. Usually when I speak on a topic I know a wealth full of information on the subject and if I don’t know something I can research the subject and educate myself on it. So what was the problem? I was scared of what people would say. I was scared that somebody might know something that I didn’t. Ultimately, I was scared that the critics would be so mean that they would humiliate me.
At the End of the Day
Who gives a shit about what they think. I’ve realized in life especially after getting into a serious car accident a year ago that I need to live MY life. Yes, my life. You are the driver in the front seat so you should do the same thing too! I believe that everyone on this earth is here to deliver their own special message but so many people die without voicing what they really want and taking control of their life. But now it’s your chance to do the exact opposite and take control of your life and start speaking your truth. You have a once and a lifetime opportunity to express who you are to the world. It’s your chance to express yourself to the world and know that your voice – in fact – truly does matter!
Reason why you need express yourself to the world
The number one reason why it’s important that you speak up and express yourself? You can change someone’s life!!!
I know you might be thinking, “What could I possibly say that would lead to changing some one’s life? Who am I to think that my life experiences, if shared, could actually affect someone?”
My question is, who are you to not to change some one’s life? You affect people around you everyday. You do it sometimes without even knowing it. Sometimes when going through hard ships in your life you may think that you’re alone but the truth is you are not!
I remember the last year of college I was always by myself because I had this insane work ethic no one understood. I even had my own friends telling me I was weird, to slow down and my goals were too high, etc. Did I listen to them? No. I was always taught if your going to listen to anyone listen to the person who established in the area you want to excel in. If they aren’t then they are blowing smoke up your ass. Also, if you have a successful person in your life and they are putting you down then in my opinion they are not successful. A person who is truly successful up lifts the people around them. Period.
The point is here there’s always going to be someone ahead of you that knows more than you but guess what? They are a bunch of people who aren’t where you are behind you and don’t know what you know. Don’t you wish you had someone during a time of hardship there to reassure you that everything was okay? Don’t you wish that you had some one who’d already been through the same things as you encourage you to keep moving forward? Wouldn’t you want to give them advice on how to deal with it? Well you have the opportunity now to be that person and guide others who were just like you.
You can release the most powerful voice inside yourself when you help and uplift others around you. That ladies and gentlemen is the where you find your true power.
I thought it was most appropriate to end this article with one of my favorite inspirational poems. I first heard it the movie Coach Carter. If haven’t seen it you should!
