You may at times feel upset, down or frustrated because you feel that those around you don’t understand or believe in your vision. You may even begin to think, ‘Maybe they are right,’ and that’s when you start to doubt yourself. If this resonates with you, you are all too familiar with this feeling. We already have this internal battle inside; the last thing that we need is people externally feeding us the same doubt we sometimes feel ourselves.
The issue here is you are a Shepard pretending to be a lamb. You haven’t surrounded yourself around people who share the same or similar vision as you do. You need to be around people who are on the same mission as you.
The people who don’t think as large as you are sheep. Errr. When I first heard this statement I cringed. It just sounds so…mean. After all they are people too and I don’t see them as being lesser than I. It was just a couple years ago I was hanging around the wrong crowd and living an average/comfortable life. I even stood firm in my place and defended them. No one could call them sheep because some of those “sheep” were my family members and friends. Some of these “sheep” were people who loved me!
Then I met this successful entrepreneur and asked him if he had ever been put down or told to live a life like an average person. Without hesitation he replied, “Of course. Those people are sheep. Do you want a boring 9 – 5 job or something challenging and inspiring? It’s better to be poor fighting the fight then to be stuck in a job like a lamb.” Again, I cringed. But most importantly I missed the messaged he was trying to give me.
I was so upset I didn’t think I even wanted to talk to this man again but what he said really began to bug me and I didn’t know why. I called my close friend up and gave her the details on the conversation and she kind of just paused for a second and in a small voice she said, “But they are sheep.” I was shocked! This girl was so loving and open minded why on earth was she agreeing with this guy? I needed to know so I asked her to explain more. I knew deep down inside if these two very successful people were telling me this it was for a reason…maybe there was something I was missing?
She explained that she didn’t call them sheep herself but she understood what he was saying. She said that there was a difference between a follower and a leader and that meant they both thought differently too. She really began to open my mind and change my perception.
Sheep and lamb has gotten such a bad rep! Last time I checked sheep were really cute white and fluffy gentle creatures. Sheep are great loving animals they just need some one to protect them and guide them. It’s not bad to be a lamb and after all we were all born equal and needed someone to protect and guide us before we became leaders so as far as I’m concerned we were all sheep at some point.
The point of this article is to encourage you to wake up and to walk in your light. We are all creators and we can choose what type of person we want to be. We are all capable of being leaders we just need to believe in ourselves and be more courageous. When going down the road less traveled sometimes you may feel lonely or you are not good enough but you are! You just need to be around people who uplift you. Every leader wasn’t born with a following. They had to build it from scratch and as they begin gaining followers they gained more confidence. They grew into the strong leaders that you see today.
So quit acting like a sheep and become the leader you were born to be! You only live once so you might as well go out with a big bang : )
